Studying MADE Simple – our new course for the 2014-2015 academic year

‘I wish I had started revising earlier.’
‘I wish I knew these strategies in year 10!’

I have lost count of the times that I have heard these comments from year 11 students. I have also spoken to many exasperated teachers who have paraphrased similar quotes. Is it the case that students don’t know how to study by themselves, or that they don’t know where to start, or perhaps they are afraid of starting? Many bury their heads in the sand, thinking that year 11 exams seem so far away, yet as that time approaches, become depressed at the idea of the mountain of work ahead. Whatever their specific attitude or concern, to help all students who are gearing up for exams, we have created a workshop packed full of the most relevant strategies for independent study and revision. These techniques will ensure that your students study at home in a structured and effective manner, consolidating the work done in class.

‘Success is the sum of small efforts – repeated day in and day out.’ ~ Robert Collier

This two-hour workshop will cover:

  • • Reflecting on current study practices
  • • Independent study strategies
  • • Condensing and memorising information
  • • Planning your environment and managing your workspace
  • • Developing a habit of regular home study sessions
  • • Beginning revision early and finding out what works for you

Eighteen years of experience working within education has taught me that both the skills and motivation for success are critical. To this end, Studying made Simple has been designed to not only teach your students how to study and revise at home but also boost their confidence and inspire them to take action.
