Post-16 update

Due to the vast number of schools and academies that we support throughout the year there is a general misconception that we only support students and staff from secondary schools. In fact, our dynamic tools and techniques for academic and personal achievement are just as relevant to students and staff in Further and Higher Education.

In September 2011 we launched our first Post-16 specific programme called ‘Stepping Up’. This advanced study skills programme quickly built up an outstanding reputation within school sixth form centres and departments. Soon a number of nationally established FE colleges contacted us, following feedback from schools, with a view to trialling and ultimately using the programme as an ideal induction for Level 1, 2 & 3 students.

Our relationships with FE institutes have gone from strength to strength this term with many departments using our goal and future planning programme – The Challenge to complement the Stepping Up programme during a focused day. The Challenge is designed specifically to help students identify the careers and futures they want.

Sample feedback from students at Canterbury College who recently participated in our ‘Stepping Up’ programme includes:

  • ‘Today has helped me understand how to revise effectively and manage my time well’
  • ‘Today has made me motivated to study more and do well in my exams’
  • ‘It has changed my way of thinking and helped me see that I can achieve – and he was really funny’
  • ‘It was useful and has allowed me to enhance my skills with interesting new techniques’
  • ‘I now know how to use these skills to my best advantage’
  • ‘It was very interesting and helpful; the tools are really useful and practical’

Students from Canterbury College who took part in ‘The Challenge’ commented:

  • ‘Today has really inspired me and given me many positives’
  • ‘It has made me think in a completely different way; made me feel positive, I know I can now achieve anything’
  • ‘Today has had a very positive impact, its highlighted the benefits of thinking positive and goal planning’
  • ‘It has made me feel that I can achieve what I want to do and how to get over life’s hurdles’
  • ‘Today has made me realise my goals and the steps I need to take to achieve them, it has motivated me to take actions’.
