Uni Connect

Uni Connect is a government funded initiative aimed at supporting the most disadvantaged young people in England in progressing on to Higher Education (HE).

Uni Connect brings together 29 partnerships of universities, colleges and other local partners to offer activities, advice and information on the benefits and realities of going to university or college.

Since 2017, MADE has been extremely proud to support 11 partnerships across the country. Over 50,000 young people have taken part in over 1300 interventions designed to help students clarify their aspirations, achieve their best possible results and make informed decisions about their futures.

We have supported over 50,000 students so far

Our involvement in the first three phases of the project has seen us deliver over 1300 workshops in over 260 schools and colleges across the country, from Cornwall to Cumbria. Each geographic area has different challenges and therefore each partnership has selected the relevant sessions from our MADE workshop portfolio to meet the specific needs of their students.

The table below shows which age groups we have worked with, which workshops we have delivered and the collected quantitative feedback of our support for the Uni Connect programme. See the case study below for more detail on our work with Next Steps South West (NSSW). We are extremely proud to have had the opportunity of working with so many motivated young people and look forward to helping many more as the project continues.

In June 2020, we launched our Remote Learning Portal. Populated with an array of studying and goal setting videos, this online resource is aimed at helping students to become independent learners and take part in remote learning.

Case Study:

Since 2017, MADE Training has supported Next Steps South West (a collaboration of fourteen partner universities and colleges throughout Cornwall, Devon and Somerset) in providing a wide range of outreach activities in schools across the region. Workshops included themes of Goal Setting, Confidence & Motivation, Independent Learning and Exam Preparation. Our immediate impact and reputation for quality delivery led to the co-development of a new workshop ‘Fast Track to Success’ –  designed to help students make confident, informed decisions about their futures. In 2019/20, we became ‘core delivery partners’ commissioned to deliver our flagship exam preparation workshops in schools across the region. Following the Covid-19 lockdown, Next Steps South West became the first Uni Connect partnership to utilise our Remote Learning Video Portal.

Some said it was the best session they had ever had at Walton! Praise indeed – as we know students can be the harshest critics!

The workshop was so beneficial and useful for me and my son, who will be using the techniques at home and me in my work!

You people are AWESOME. Staff and student feedback was very positive. Your facilitator was excellent, the session was very useful and well led is what I was told…and if my people are happy…I’m happy
