160 Yr11 once again came out of the ‘Exams MADE Easy’ sessions buzzing about new revision techniques!

Hi Corin 160 Yr11 once again came out of the 'Exams MADE Easy' sessions buzzing about new revision techniques! 88% said they would put the techniques in to practice for the November exams. They thought James was really motivational and encouraging about their potential. Excellent!

My headteacher was so impressed with Sander, that he has already told me to organise some sessions with Year 11 as soon as I possibly can

Today has been a great success. The students came out glowing after their Exams Made Easy and Lighthouse workshops. Fabulous presentation which captivated many minds. My headteacher was so impressed with Sander, that he has already told me to organise some sessions with Year 11 as soon as I possibly can after half term. The other workshops had great impact, with kids extremely impressed with the SACU session which gives them tailor made options and pathways for their own futures. One of our more reluctant learners, asked Peter if he could print his results off to take home and show his mum, just proving the impact this session had on our students.

A number of our students stopped Danny in the corridor afterwards to thank him

We had Danny in yesterday and the sessions went really well. Year 9 found 'The Lighthouse' sessions useful, with many setting themselves really aspirational targets for their futures and Year 11 got a lot of useful tips for supporting their revision from Exams Made Easy. A number of our students stopped Danny in the corridor afterwards to thank him for the session. We also had a number of parents attend the workshop in the evening. They fed back that the session was very useful and they liked having the opportunity to ask questions and share some of their concerns. I thought the workshop was excellent and the resources useful and easy to use.

Some said it was the best session they had ever had at Walton

Thank you for the session you delivered for Year 13s on Friday at Walton. The students were very enthusiastic about the whole session. They all found it really useful and some have already started to use the techniques recommended. They thought Joe was really enthusiastic and had some very good exam techniques. Some said it was the best session they had ever had at Walton! Praise indeed – as we know students can be the harshest critics! The staff who observed Joe were very complimentary about the very high quality of the sessions, Joe’s professionalism and the highly engaging delivery. I would thoroughly recommend Joe to other schools and look forward to being able to work with him again at Walton. With best wishes

Very experienced and engaging trainers who responded brilliantly to the needs of the students

The sessions were packed full of practical ideas that we can now build on as a school. Very experienced and engaging trainers who responded brilliantly to the needs of the students. They worked brilliantly as a double act and commanded the attention of the room of 150 students well. The initial feedback from students is overwhelmingly positive. The session for parents and carers was also very helpful and some great discussion was had as to the best working environment for children at home and especially around the hot topic of electronic devices. Many thanks for everything.

The content of the workshop was excellent

Joe was excellent, really engaging and interactive and he worked well with all the students. The content of the workshop was excellent, it included really practical ways of revising and remembering information and key facts. A number of the students have said how useful they found the workshop and they feel it will really help with their revision.

Great value for money in comparison to what else is out there

We thought the day was excellent and great value for money in comparison to what else is out there. Rob was a fantastic trainer who engaged with the students and, even though he had only just met them, seamlessly understood their needs and engaged with them effortlessly. The materials and ideas presented to the students were well packaged and will prove highly useful for the year groups' revision strategies. We look forward to working with you in the future.

I really can’t praise him highly enough.

The feedback was excellent from the students and especially the parents. James was an absolute star throughout the day, even dealing with the technical conundrum when the power went! I hope he got home OK!? The students today have been discussing it in PD and it has proved a valuable starting point in getting them thinking forward and to their exams and one we can keep referencing. I really can't praise him highly enough. I've copied an email form a parent below so you can get a sample of feedback but there was a lot of verbal praise too last night.

Rob was brilliant and the delivery was excellent

The girls have really enjoyed the sessions; Rob was brilliant and the delivery was excellent. The verbal feedback I have had from the pupils has been very positive and they now have a lot more ideas about revision techniques which may work for them; it will be interesting to see the impact report from yourselves. All in all, a very positive start to Year 11! Many thanks for all your help with setting this up!

He delivered the sessions in such a fun way

We were delighted to be able to run the 2 workshops to fairly small groups of our year 10 Next Steps targeted students today. The trainer, James Sherwood was lively, engaging and really approachable. He delivered the session in such a fun way; the students were focussed and I loved the way they all eventually went away with pens and highlighters to help motivate further study. The workshop media used and worksheet were good quality – I liked the layout of the sheet with the different tasks to complete. It was great to have a different person – not their usual teachers, to tell the students that they do need to study hard to achieve success and get them to think about how to make study more effective and use their time wisely – e.g. by prioritising tasks while still having a work flow to the day with breaks. As the audience were targeted students by Next Steps, many of whom qualify for the Pupil Premium due to deprivation, I thought the section exploring the potential barriers and distractions to their study present at home worked really well. As a Science teacher, I enjoyed the examples based on biology and chemistry and the session did keep their attention for the whole 2 hours. Many thanks to Next Steps South West for facilitating these sessions and to James for the excellent workshops. Thanks again – we would never have had funding available for this if it wasn’t for Next Steps!
